Log Settings Dialog Box Use this dialog box for: • Selecting sources and severity of events to log • Selecting a logging utility • Setting the maximum event log size You can configure the following options: Option Description Event sources Several Mobility components generate events that can be recorded in the event log. By default the event log records events from all components, but you can choose to record events from only the components you select. Event Types Mobility logs event types of varying degrees of severity. You can select which event types to collect and which ones to exclude, with the exception of errors: these events are always collected, though you can choose not to display them; see Filter Dialog Box for more information. Debug events should be logged only while you are troubleshooting; leaving this event type selected during normal use will fill the even buffer too quickly. Use Windows application log You can log Mobility messages to the operating system application log and view them in the operating system event viewer. This option is not available on Windows CE. The Windows application log will not record debug events. To record debug events, select Use Mobility log. Use Mobility log Logs Mobility messages to the Mobility event log, where they can be viewed in the Mobility Event Viewer. Event buffer Sets the maximum size of the event buffer. When the log file reaches its maximum, the oldest events are removed to make room for new events. If you have sufficient memory and want to minimize disk activity, increase the buffer size. If you have limited system memory, decrease this value. On Windows CE devices, a very large event log buffer may consume so much of the available memory that the Event Viewer is unable to open. Choose a lower setting for the event log buffer if this is a problem. Setting the event buffer to the maximum size may be useful if you are creating an event log that you will save and view on a PC. If you change the size of the event buffer, the new buffer size is implemented the next time you restart the PC or reset the Windows CE device. Related Information • Event Sources • Event Types
