First Time Sewer Connection
First time construction sewer connection

Properties with no construction or remodeling, within the WASD service area, where an existing sewer lateral has been found are required to connect to WASD sewer facilities as First Time connection.

How to Find the Location of the Sewer Lateral
Please check Utilities Information Request to verify if there are sewer lateral at the property before requesting your Sewer Service Connection.

To connect your property to the WASD sewer system, you will need to click on Verification Form Certificate of Use, Ordinance Letter to submit your request.

Residents in Miami-Dade County whose property currently use a septic tank and are connecting to a sewer main with an existing lateral should be prepared to:

  • Obtain “Pump-out and Abandon Permit” from the State Department of Health
  • Obtain an allocation letter from the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER)
  • Obtain a plumbing permit from Miami-Dade County Building Department or your applicable Municipality
  • Obtain approval from Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD), and pay WASD sewer connection fees calculated at the time of request, based on a property’s usage

Note: In accordance with ARTICLE V. - Water and Sewer Connection Sec. 32-79 of the Miami-Dade County Code, WASD allows 90 days after the water and sewer connection charges payment date before it begins the process to start sewer billing.

If you are changing a property's previous type of use (example: building multiple residential units on land that was previously zoned for single-family use), please note the following: in addition to any permits you would need for making the proposed change, as well as all of the items listed below, WASD would need the Sewage Flow Allocation Letter to reflect any additional gallonage demand created by the change. WASD will determine if the sewer main fronting the property is of sufficient size for the additional gallonage demand and if it provides complete property frontage.
