If your construction project has an executed service agreement with the Water and Sewer Department, you will need to follow additional procedures if your project involves:
Work within or along state roads
Re-platting or permanent road closures with existing Water and Sewer Department infrastructure
Excavations
Projects that will take place within or along any state road requires a permit from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) before any work is allowed. This is an addition to any other permits required before work can be done.
A pre-construction meeting must be scheduled with an FDOT inspector
The contractor will be provided with estimated restoration costs by the County's Field Operations Office for work within the FDOT area
The contractor must provide a bond or Letter of Credit to cover the estimated restoration costs
The bond or Letter of Credit is returned to the contractor only upon written request, after job completion, FDOT approval and County approval
Miami-Dade County, in addition to any agencies involved, would need to determine if any water and sewer infrastructure may be affected by proposed re-platting or permanent road closures.
The following information is required:
The property owner, his or her agent, contractor, or an engineer must submit the request in writing
An original property boundary survey, signed and sealed by a Professional Land Surveyor or Professional Surveyor and Mapper
A legal description of the property
A description of the specific portion of the road to be closed
The folio number(s) of the property, which can be obtained by searching County property records
The items must be mailed or delivered in person to our office.
The department will determine:
If the installation of new water or sewer facilities will be required in order to abandon the existing facilities
If a Grant of Easement will be required for the water or sewer facilities that will remain in the portion of the road that is to be closed. Grant of easement shall include the legal description and sketch
Any person with the intent to excavate must call Sunshine State One Call of Florida at 811 between two and five business days before beginning any excavations or demolition begin.
The boundaries of all proposed excavations of 1,000 feet or less, including do-it-yourself jobs, must be marked with a white water-based paint. This should be done before the excavator calls Sunshine State One Call of Florida.
