Contractor License Renewal

If you are a tradesman or a contractor, you must renew your license generally every two years. You will receive a renewal notice two months before the expiration of your active license.

Return the notice by mail or in person, with the requested fee paid by check or money order payable to the Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources.

Each licensed holder is required to have 16 hours of continuing education credit hours. A certificate holder is not required to complete any continuing education requirements for the term in which a certificate is initially issued pursuant to Section 10-13.1(3) of the Miami-Dade County Code. Individuals holding a business license must present a certificate of liability insurance and proof of worker’s compensation coverage.

You must acknowledge that you have read the notice in order to proceed to the contractor renewal application.

Dear Certificate Holder and/or Qualifying Agent:

This notice is directed to each person who is certified by the Construction Trades Qualifying Board under Chapter 10 of Miami-Dade County Code.

Each licensee/certificate holder must submit proof showing the completion of 16 hours of approved continuing education from a Miami-Dade County approved course sponsor when renewing your license/certificate. Such proof must accompany your license/certificate renewal form pursuant to Chapter 10 Section 10-13 and 10-13.1.

Failure to submit proof of the continuing education when renewing, will result in your license/certificate being placed in involuntary inactive status.

Miami-Dade County Certificate holders, if required by Chapter 10 of the Code of Miami-Dade County and Florida Statute 489 must be registered with the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Failure to comply will result in a restriction of your permitting privileges.

A qualifying agent who has reached the age of 65 may renew his/her certificate of competency at no cost and will be excused from the continuing education requirement.

The qualifying agent must have held the certificate of competency for at least 20 years and never been found guilty of a criminal or civil violation pertaining to Miami-Dade County Code or Florida Statute 489.

The qualifying agent shall apply in person for the subject renewal.
