Managing the Mobility Client

The Mobility icon in the system tray indicates the status of the client and its connection to the Mobility server.

In Windows 7 and later, most icons (including the one for Mobility) are not displayed in the notification area by default. To display the Mobility icon, open the Properties for the Windows taskbar, and then click Customize notification icons. You can choose whether to display the Mobility tray icon or notifications, or to hide both.

To review client sessions on the Mobility client

1.	Open the NetMotion Mobility Client dialog box:

Start > Mobility Client

2.	On the Status tab the icon indicates the client's connection status.

Icon	Description	Client Status
	Connected	Connected to a Mobility server. Note: If there is a client policy in effect that disconnects the device, the status in the Client Properties dialog box indicates that network traffic is not using Mobility, but the icon is green.
	Connecting	Establishing a Mobility server connection.
	Roaming	The Mobility client’s IP address or network adapter has changed. The client may be roaming to a new subnet, or returning from out of range.
	Unreachable	Unable to reach the Mobility server. The client has established a connection but communication has been interrupted.
	Disconnected and blocked	The client is disconnected from the Mobility server and network traffic is blocked.
	Disconnected	This state (formerly named bypassed) is one where the client is disconnected from the Mobility server and all data is sent through the TCP/IP stack to the local network instead.
	Idle	Waiting for a network interface.

If the client is connected to a Mobility server, the Status tab also shows the current user, the client device's virtual and point of presence IP addresses, and the IP address of the Mobility server.

To review IP address information returned by DHCP

1.	Open the NetMotion Mobility Client dialog box:

Start > Mobility Client

2.	On the Details tab, click Interface List.

3.	Select the interface that you want information about. The information displayed on this tab is provided by DHCP for the selected interface.

To release or renew the current DHCP lease

1.	Open the NetMotion Mobility Client dialog box:

Start > Mobility Client

2.	On the Details tab, click Interface List.

3.	In the Interface list, select an interface with an active DHCP lease.

4.	Click Release or Renew, and then click OK.
